Vows of purity are taken in a wide variety of surroundings and circumstances. Some individuals will take their vow of purity in private, while others will take their vow of purity in public with several of their peers and friends.
Even though there are several different places and environments which purity vows are taken, most individuals make and take their purity vows during their teenage years. This is most common. However, it is not unusual for an individual to take a purity vow at another stage of life. There are many individuals who retake their vows of purity at an older age, such as when they are attending college. This helps them to re-commit, renew and remember their desire to stay pure and abstinent before marriage.
